The Numerology of Changing Your Name

The Numerology of Changing Your Name

When changing your name changes your numbers
Hans Decoz

The question of a name change and the potential improvements this might make comes up all the time. And rightfully so. After all, we all want to have every advantage available in this life. There is, however, one small problem. A name change can do one of two things: it either improves your life or it worsens it.

On the other hand, the name you have now probably fits you very well which, of course, is precisely why you have that name. In general, the process of naming a child is an intuitive and organic process that is in perfect synchronicity with everything else.

However, there are exceptions, and if you feel your name does not suit you, for whatever reason, here are some basic insights that I hope will help you choose the right name.

Different perspectives

Numerology looks at your chart from three angles:

1. Your date of birth sets you on your path; the direction of your life, the cycles, the timing, etc. This is why the most important number derived from your birth date, the Life Path, is so appropriately named. It really is a path. This part of your chart cannot be changed.

2. Your full name at the time of your birth reveals "who" you are. Your strengths and weaknesses, your talents, your likes and dislikes, and so forth. Think of it as a blueprint of your personality. This also cannot be changed. You will, during the course of your life, go through many changes, but those changes all happen further down the road and always as a result of internal and external influences.

3. The name you use to introduce yourself, both your first and last name. (Some people get a bit confused, for instance, if they include their middle initials whenever they sign documents does the middle initial count? Or extensions like Jr. and Sr.? And what about nicknames? Here is the rule: It should be exactly the way you introduce yourself in a social setting. No nicknames, no Jr. or Sr. unless you always introduce yourself that way.)

And this third point, your current name, you can change. From a Numerology perspective it doesn't matter if you do this legally, the only thing that matters is how you will introduce yourself from now on. But keep in mind that name change will have an effect on many levels. And this is where it gets a bit tricky. If you choose the wrong name you throw a monkey wrench into the natural development of your personal evolution and the result could be quite devastating. Therefore, I don't recommend changing your name unless you have some very strong personal or professional reasons. For example: I hate my stepfather and don't want his name attached to me. And I am pretty sure that if John Wayne, at the start of his career, had been Herb Wayne or Eugene Wayne, his agent would have told him to change that name into something a bit more macho, because the agent understands that we have an intuitive connection to names and, being a good business man, he will want to get every possible advantage.

Good name changes

If you want to change your name, consider looking for a name already attached to your DNA, like a grandmother's maiden name. However, if you don't find such a name, but there is one you have always been attracted to, that could be a good choice too. No matter the source, you want to consider names that for one reason or another belong to people or fictional characters you strongly identify with.

Bad name changes

What I do not advise is to have a numerologist, or anyone else including you, design a name for you based on a perceived understanding of the influence the numbers and letters will have. I can pretty much guarantee that any name "custom-designed" to make you rich or happy or whatever, will become the aforementioned monkey wrench and create havoc with your life. There are simply too many variables. You have a much better chance of finding the proper name by tapping into your own intuitive understanding, combined perhaps with some numerological insights.

Keep your name change natural and don't try to find shortcuts for your life. Trust your intuition when you pick a new name for yourself, no one knows you better than you, and certainly no one understands what makes you happy better than you do. And the bottom line is that you don't want to be rich or married or tall or pretty, you want to be happy.
